Supporting Hurricane Florence Victims of Duplin County Schools
(with the help of Tidelands Ford)

Tidlands Ford Logo

As we all know, we were very blessed when Hurricane Florence hit North and South Carolina and we did not get hit as hard as expected.  Unfortunately, not everyone was so lucky.  The Waccamaw Schools are getting together to support the Duplin County School District, in NC, Our very own Mrs. Weaver, art teacher at WIS, calls this place HOME.

Duplin County has around 10,000 students.  It is located around I-40 North, just north west of Wilmington, NC.  It is a farming community with narrow creeks running through it that are fed by the Cape Fear River.  Hurricane Florence came through in September and flooded a large part of the county.  As A result the students have been out of school since September 11, 2018.  They hope to go back on Oct 22nd.  Many student’s homes were badly damaged from the flood waters, causing their families to lose most of the contents within, including their winter coats, sweaters, books, toys, furniture, and appliances.  Not to mention the walls and flooring that have to be replaced due to mold and mildew.  It has been an experience that has effected everyone there because they are either dealing with a flooded home or helping someone who is dealing with it.

We are asking our parents and students to help us with a book drive for the students of Duplin. Please donate new or "gently used" children's books. We want to fill up the bed of a brand new Ford Truck! View the video to find out more information.
