WIS Student Senate

The Waccamaw Intermediate School Senate works with the teachers and administration to plan events and lead service projects throughout the year. Senators are elected to represent all homeroom classes. From the classroom representatives the President, Vice President and Secretary are nominated to run in the schoolwide election, usually held in October. Generally, meetings are held once a month. Senators attend the meetings, participate in the planning of service projects, and lead the students in their homeroom class in completing projects. The classroom representatives take active roles in encouraging their peers and working on the projects. In the past, we have donated items for soldiers in Iraq, collected canned goods for the Salvation Army in Georgetown County, sold Gator Grams and Candy Canes to make money for the Red Cross, and helped with a few projects spearheaded by individual students who saw a need and found a way to help a worthy cause. Often, Dr. Carnahan calls on the Student Senators to give tours of the school or help in events when visitors are in the building. Our goals are to offer students an opportunity to become communicators and leaders and model good citizenship.

Some of activities include:

1.St. Francis Animal Shelter donations

2.The Canned Food Drive for Salvation Army

3. Collecting toys for MUSC Children's Hospital
